While the cataloguing standard is now under review, it can be argued that organization of the collection is still of the utmost importance. A comprehensive, logical organizational system will enhance browsing and aid in reader’s discovery.

    In this online tutorial, students will learn the basic components of a MARC record.  After completing this tutorial, students will be able to: recognize MARC terminology, identify the main components of a MARC records, find a Dewey call number and LC subject heading(s) and select the best record for an item when copy cataloguing.
